Ajayi, Ogazi and Amusan Set for New Glasgow 2026 Track as Scotstoun Stadium Unveils Upgraded Facility
Nigeria’s athletics stars Kanyinsola Ajayi, Samuel Ogazi and Tobi Amusan will compete on a newly installed track at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after organisers unveiled the upgraded facility at Scotstoun Stadium.
The new MONDO athletics surface, installed ahead of the Games, will host the Athletics and Para Athletics events from July 27 to August 1, with 59 medal events set to be contested at the venue.
Ajayi arrives in Glasgow as one of the biggest names in global sprinting. The reigning NCAA 60m and 100m champion holds a personal best of 9.84 seconds in the 100m, a Nigerian record and the second-fastest time in the world this year.
Ogazi will also be among the athletes to watch after an outstanding season. The Nigerian quarter-miler is the reigning NCAA indoor and outdoor 400m champion and owns a world-leading time of 43.38 seconds.
Meanwhile, former World champion Tobi Amusan will return to the Commonwealth stage as she aims to make history in the women’s 100m hurdles.
The reigning Commonwealth Games champion is targeting a third consecutive title after victories at the 2018 and 2022 editions.
The newly upgraded Scotstoun Stadium track will provide the stage for some of the world’s leading athletes as Glasgow prepares to welcome more than 3,000 competitors from 74 nations and territories across 10 sports and six Para sports.
Beyond the Games, the facility is expected to leave a lasting legacy by providing athletes, clubs and the wider Glasgow sporting community with an improved high-performance training and competition venue.
