France 2-0 Morocco: Mbappe Leads Les Bleus Into Third Straight World Cup Semi-Final

Kylian Mbappe delivered another decisive performance as France defeated Morocco 2-0 at Boston Stadium to secure a place in the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The France captain overcame a first-half penalty miss to score his eighth goal of the tournament and inspire the two-time champions into their third consecutive World Cup semi-final.

Mbappe later turned provider, setting up Ousmane Dembele for France’s second goal as Didier Deschamps’ side booked a last-four meeting with either Belgium or Spain.

France started strongly and controlled much of the opening exchanges, with Dayot Upamecano coming close early after heading a fifth-minute corner straight at Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

Les Bleus continued to dominate possession and were awarded a penalty after Noussair Mazraoui brought down Mbappe inside the box. However, the France skipper’s spot-kick was brilliantly saved by Bounou, ensuring both teams went into the interval level.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 60th minute when Mbappe produced a moment of individual brilliance, curling a superb strike into the far corner from the edge of the penalty area.

The forward quickly made his influence felt again, this time creating the second goal. Mbappe released Dembele through on goal, allowing the winger to calmly finish into the bottom corner and put France in complete control.

Morocco were unable to find a response as France managed the closing stages comfortably to secure another historic World Cup milestone.

The victory extends France’s remarkable recent record at football’s biggest tournament, with Les Bleus reaching their third successive semi-final after winning the 2018 edition in Russia and finishing runners-up to Argentina at Qatar 2022.

Mbappe’s form has continued to make him one of the standout players of the competition, having scored in five of France’s six matches and currently leading the race for the adidas Golden Boot.

The 27-year-old has now moved closer to World Cup history, with only Lionel Messi ahead of him on the all-time tournament scoring chart.

Dembele also entered the record books by becoming only the third French player to score five goals in a single World Cup edition, following Mbappe and legendary striker Just Fontaine.

Meanwhile, Morocco teenager Ayyoub Bouaddi made history by becoming the first African player to make five World Cup appearances before turning 19.

Mbappe was named Player of the Match after another influential display that kept France’s dream of a third World Cup title firmly alive.
