Amusan Leads Nigeria’s Top Five Women in Latest World Athletics Rankings

World record holder Tobi Amusan has retained her status as Nigeria’s highest-ranked female athlete in the latest World Athletics rankings, reinforcing her position as the country’s leading track and field stars.

The reigning sprint hurdles star leads the national women’s rankings with 1,392 points in the 100m hurdles. Amusan is currently ranked second in the world in her event, 19th overall across all women’s disciplines, and remains Africa’s number one in the 100m hurdles.

Sprinter Favour Ofili occupies second position among Nigerian women with a ranking score of 1,310 points in the 200m.

The 23-year-old continues to establish herself as one of Nigeria’s premier sprint talents following a string of impressive performances on the international circuit.

Ofili is now seventh in the world in the women’s 200m, 119th overall in the World Athletics rankings, and is the highest-ranked female 200m sprinter in Africa.

Emerging quarter-miler Ella Onojuvwevwo is ranked third among Nigerian women with 1,264 points in the women’s 400m.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a rapid rise in the rankings She is currently 20th in the world in the 400m, 246th overall, and third in Africa in the event.

Rosemary Chukwuma is fourth on the national list with 1,231 points, reflecting her consistency in both the 100m and 200m events. The sprinter is ranked 39th globally in the women’s 100m, 430th overall, and is the second-highest ranked African in the event.

Completing the top five is high jumper Temitope Simbiat Adeshina, who has amassed 1,217 ranking points.

Adeshina’s continued progress in the field event highlights Nigeria’s growing strength beyond the track as she cements her place among the country’s elite female athletes.

She is currently 14th in the world in the high jump, 546th overall, and is Africa’s top-ranked female high jumper.
