Arokodare’s Wolves Crisis Opens Door for Trabzonspor Move
Trabzonspor are reportedly preparing to renew their interest in Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare after a major development at Wolverhampton Wanderers appeared to increase the possibility of the forward leaving the English club.
The Turkish side are looking for a replacement for Felipe Augusto, who recently joined Zenit for a reported €15 million plus €5 million in add-ons, and Arokodare has emerged as one of their leading targets.
According to reports in the English press, Wolves’ new coach Cesar Peixoto reportedly ordered the 25-year-old Nigerian not to train with the team and asked him to leave the training ground.
The situation allegedly escalated after Arokodare did not comply, leading to the cancellation of the session.
Security measures were subsequently reportedly increased at Wolves’ Compton Park training ground, with special arrangements allegedly put in place to prevent the Nigerian striker from entering the facility.
Arokodare was also reportedly left out of the squad for the friendly against Maidenhead United after previously missing the club’s pre-season camp in Portugal.
The latest developments have led to speculation that Wolves could now be open to allowing the striker to leave, prompting Trabzonspor to consider a fresh move for the Nigerian.
Trabzonspor had previously made significant progress in negotiations for Arokodare, but the talks reportedly stalled after the striker’s representatives brought other clubs into the race. Serie A clubs Fiorentina and Genoa were among those linked with the forward, although neither move materialised.
The Turkish club are now reportedly considering a loan offer with an option to buy. Arokodare has a contract with Wolves until 2029 and is currently valued at around €20 million.
Arokodare joined Wolves for €24 million after an outstanding campaign with Genk, where he scored 23 goals in 39 official appearances. He has since scored six goals in 38 matches for the English club.
The 1.97-metre striker is known for his physical strength, aerial ability and finishing inside the penalty area. His ability to hold up play and bring teammates into the game has made him an attractive target for Trabzonspor coach Fatih Tekke, who had previously requested the player’s signing.
A move to Trabzonspor could also create an intriguing Nigerian partnership, with Arokodare potentially playing alongside Paul Onuachu. The 2.01-metre Onuachu scored 21 goals during the 2025/26 Süper Lig season to finish as the division’s top scorer.
The two strikers are also teammates with the Nigerian national team and already have a good relationship. If Trabzonspor complete the deal, the club could boast one of the most physically imposing attacking partnerships in Turkish football, with the two Nigerian forwards combining for a total height of nearly four metres.
