2026 Commonwealth Games: Roland Ezuruike Wins Silver as Nigeria Claim Two Top-Five Finishes in Para Powerlifting
Nigeria’s Roland Ezuruike won a silver medal in the men’s lightweight para powerlifting competition at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after lifting 190kg in his final attempt at SEC Armadillo on Friday.
Ezuruike, competing in the 50.8kg bodyweight category, successfully lifted 178kg in his opening attempt before improving to 185kg on his second lift and 190kg on his third.
His performance earned him 153.9 points, finishing level on points with England’s Mark Swan, who claimed gold after lifting 232kg.
Malaysia’s Bonnie Bunyau Gustin took bronze with 153.5 points after a best lift of 230kg.
Nigeria also had another strong performance in the event, with Ibrahim Dauda finishing fifth. The 57.1kg lifter recorded a best lift of 180kg to earn 140.1 points.
