2026 Commonwealth Games: Two World Records as Nigeria’s Oluwafemiayo and Ferdinard Strike Gold and Silver

Nigeria produced a stunning one-two finish in the Women’s Heavyweight Group A para powerlifting event at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, with Folashade Oluwafemiayo winning gold and compatriot Rita Ferdinard taking silver.

Oluwafemiayo lifted 175kg on her third attempt to finish top of the standings with 134.8 points and a world record.

Ferdinard, competing at 77.6kg body weight, secured silver after successfully lifting 158kg, earning 128.2 points and also setting a world record.

Australia’s Hani Watson claimed bronze with a best lift of 147kg and 111.5 points, while England’s Louise Sugden finished fourth. Doaa Shayea of England and India’s Kasthuri Rajamani completed the field.

The double podium finish adds another major success to Nigeria’s campaign at the Games, with Oluwafemiayo and Ferdinard producing a dominant performance in the women’s heavyweight competition.
