2026 Commonwealth Games: Nigeria’s Riluwan Idris Claims Men’s Heavyweight Para Powerlifting Gold

Nigeria’s Riluwan Idris has won the men’s heavyweight para powerlifting gold medal at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after producing a best lift of 212kg in the final at SEC Armadillo on Friday night.

Idris, who weighed 86kg, successfully lifted 200kg in his opening attempt before improving to 208kg and then 212kg on his third lift.

His performance earned him 132.8 points, enough to finish ahead of England’s Matthew Harding, who took silver with 131.0 points after lifting 202kg.

Malaysia’s Nicodemus Manggoi Moses claimed the bronze medal with 120.3 points, while India’s Sudhir finished fourth and Ghana’s Tahiru Haruna fifth.

The victory gives Nigeria another major success in para sport at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
