Sensational Ezechukwu Anchors Nigeria to World U20 Mixed 4x100m Relay Final with Personal Best
Nigeria booked its place in the final of the mixed 4x100m relay at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Oregon after producing a season-best performance of 41.91 seconds to finish second in Heat 3 on Thursday.
The quartet of Tejiri Godwin, Chigozie Rosemary Nwankwo, Perfect Faye and Oluebube Ezechukwu combined brilliantly to finish just behind the United States, which won the heat in 41.82s, while Germany claimed the third automatic qualifying spot in 42.12s.
After Tejiri Godwin opened with a solid first leg, Chigozie Rosemary Nwankwo kept Nigeria in contention before Perfect Faye delivered a strong third leg.
With the team lying fourth at the final exchange, Oluebube Ezechukwu produced a sensational anchor leg of 10.05 seconds, the fastest women’s split in the heat, to power Nigeria into second place and secure qualification for the final.
Ezechukwu’s outstanding finish capped a memorable race, with Nigeria clocking a personal best (PB) of 41.91 seconds, just 0.09 seconds behind the United States.
