Former Track and Field Stars, AFN Chiefs Back Dynamic Athletics Meet 2026
The Dynamic Athletics Meet has received an overwhelming endorsement from some of Nigeria’s most respected former athletes, technical officials and administrators, further cementing its status as one of the country’s fastest growing and most authentic track and field competitions.
Leading the wave of support is African sprint legend Olusoji Fasuba, who donated ₦200,000 in prize money for the men’s and women’s 100m races to encourage home-based athletes.
Seven-time Nigerian sprint champion Endurance ‘Bulldozer’ Ojokolo matched the gesture with another ₦200,000, while former Nigerian sprinter Peter Emelieze pledged ₦100,000 in support of the competition.
A former Nigerian national triple jump champion based in the United Kingdom also contributed ₦100,000, saying quality competitions are essential for athletes to fulfil their potential.
The list of supporters has continued to grow with respected athletics technical official and retired naval officer Commodore Omatseye Nesiama (Rtd.) donating ₦250,000 towards the successful staging of the meet.
Nesiama, who this year became the first Nigerian to serve as a referee at the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, Botswana, has also officiated at the African Senior Championships in Ghana and the National Championships/Commonwealth Games Trials in Lagos, reinforcing his reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading technical officials.
Backing has also come from key athletics administrators. AFN Competitions Committee Chairman Samuel Onikeku boosted preparations with a ₦500,000 donation, while Edo State Athletics Association Chairman Dr. Felix Idahosa contributed ₦150,000 in support of the competition.
The meet has also received the endorsement of AFN Technical Director Gabriel Okon, who described the Dynamic Athletics Meet as a valuable addition to Nigeria’s athletics calendar and pledged the Federation’s full technical support to ensure a professionally organised competition.
Okon stressed that with major events such as the World Athletics Ultimate Championship, Youth Olympic Games, and National Sports Festival still ahead, athletes need quality domestic competitions to remain in peak condition.
Scheduled for August 15 at the YABATECH Sports Complex in Lagos, the third edition of the Dynamic Athletics Meet is expected to attract top athletes from across Nigeria and West Africa. With Mrs. Funmi Otegbeye serving as referee and an ever-growing list of distinguished supporters, the competition continues to establish itself as a premier platform for discovering and developing the next generation of Nigerian athletics stars.
