Official: Coventry City Complete Permanent Signing of Taiwo Awoniyi

Coventry City have completed the signing of Nigeria international striker Taiwo Awoniyi on a permanent transfer from Nottingham Forest.

The 29-year-old forward spent the last four seasons in the Premier League with Forest, scoring 21 league goals in 90 appearances and 23 goals in 103 matches across all competitions.

Awoniyi began his professional career at Liverpool before gaining valuable experience during loan spells with FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen, Mouscron and KAA Gent.

He later moved to the Bundesliga, spending the 2019/20 season on loan at Mainz 05 before joining 1. FC Union Berlin on another temporary deal the following campaign.

His impressive performances persuaded Union Berlin to make the transfer permanent in the summer of 2021.

Awoniyi subsequently enjoyed his most productive scoring season, finding the net 20 times, including four goals in the UEFA Conference League.

His form attracted Nottingham Forest, who broke their transfer record to sign the Nigerian in 2022. Awoniyi scored 11 goals during his first campaign at the City Ground, helping Forest avoid relegation in their first season back in the Premier League and reach the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

He was also part of the Forest squad that finished seventh and secured European qualification in the 2024/25 season, establishing himself as an important member of the team.

At international level, Awoniyi has earned 10 caps for Nigeria and scored twice for the Super Eagles.
