It’s Official: Amusan and Ofili to Run at Lausanne Diamond League Meeting

Nigerian stars Tobi Amusan and Favour Ofili have been confirmed for the Athletissima in Lausanne, Switzerland, the 12th leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League series, with both athletes set to compete on August 21.
According to the official entry list released by the organisers on Monday, Amusan will contest the women’s 100m hurdles, while Ofili will compete in the 200m.
For Amusan, who has already secured her place in next month’s Diamond League Final in Brussels, the Lausanne race provides another opportunity to defeat reigning Olympic champion Masai Russell of the United States for the first time in 2026 and extend her head-to-head advantage over the American to 8-6.
The Nigerian world champion will also be aiming to prevent Russell from making another serious attempt at her 12.12-second world record, set when she won the world title in 2022.
Russell has twice come close to the mark, running 12.17 seconds in 2025 before improving to 12.14 this year, just 0.02 seconds outside Amusan’s world record.
A victory in Lausanne would provide the 29-year-old Amusan with valuable momentum and a psychological boost ahead of the Diamond League Final in Brussels and the World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest, both scheduled for next month.
For Ofili, the 200m race will provide an important opportunity to sharpen her preparations for the Ultimate Championships. The Nigerian sprinter faces a difficult task in her bid to qualify for the Diamond League Final, making Lausanne particularly important as part of her build-up to the global championship.
