MASA Isonyin Half Marathon Promises Record Turnout, ₦15m in Cash Prizes

The town of Isonyin in Ogun State is set to come alive this weekend as the Masa Isonyin Half Marathon 2026, themed ‘Running for Elevation,’ takes centre stage, with organisers expecting another strong turnout from elite athletes and local runners.

The 21-kilometre race, which began in April 2022, has grown into one of Nigeria’s notable community-based road races, combining competitive athletics with the promotion of local culture and tourism.

The inaugural edition attracted runners from Nigeria and beyond, with Kenya’s John Muiruri finishing second in 1:12:39, while Plateau State’s Shehu Muazu ‘Shagari’ emerged champion in 1:10:52.

This year’s edition comes with a total prize purse of ₦15 million, with the elite winner set to receive ₦1.5 million, while the second- and third-place finishers will earn ₦1 million and ₦700,000 respectively.

The local category offers ₦1 million to the winner, ₦500,000 for second place and ₦250,000 for third, with prizes extending to the top 20 finishers in each category.

Located about 10 kilometres from Ijebu Ode, Isonyin is expected to welcome athletes, visitors and supporters for an event that organisers say will showcase the town’s sporting potential and cultural heritage.

The race will once again take competitors through the town and surrounding communities in Ijebu North-East Local Government Area.

Organisers said they are expecting the 2026 edition to surpass previous editions in terms of participation, competition and community involvement, while providing athletes with an opportunity to compete for substantial prize money.
