‘Difficult to Contain’: Hamburg Chief Hails Moffi After Permanent Move

Hamburger SV sporting director Claus Costa has described new signing Terem Moffi as a striker who will be ‘difficult to contain’ after the Nigeria international completed his permanent move from French club OGC Nice.

The 27-year-old forward, who will wear the No. 9 shirt, has joined Hamburg as their seventh summer signing ahead of the new Bundesliga season.

Moffi completed his mandatory medical examinations last weekend before signing his contract with the German club.

‘Terem is a striker who is difficult to contain because of his physicality, determination and style of play,’ Costa said after the deal was completed.

‘He is capable of attacking the space in behind, has an enormous presence in the penalty area and possesses the necessary defensive qualities.’

Costa believes Moffi’s arrival will give Hamburg greater attacking options and added that the club’s immediate priority is to integrate the Nigerian quickly ahead of the new campaign.

‘We are convinced that Terem will give our game additional cutting edge and our squad greater versatility as a result,’ he said.

‘The priority now is to integrate him quickly so that, as a team, we can start the new Bundesliga season with plenty of energy and conviction.’

Moffi joins Hamburg after a career that has taken him through six countries, with Germany becoming the seventh.

He began his professional career in Lithuania before spells in Belgium and France with KV Kortrijk, FC Lorient and OGC Nice. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Portuguese club FC Porto.

The Calabar-born striker has scored 88 goals and provided 13 assists in 228 competitive club appearances. He has also scored six goals in 23 appearances for Nigeria.
