Amusan Returns to Zurich 4 Years After Defending Diamond League Crown
Four years after successfully defending her Diamond League 100m hurdles title in Zurich, Tobi Amusan will return to the Weltklasse on Thursday for the penultimate meeting of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League season.
Amusan won her first Diamond League high hurdles crown in Zurich in 2021, becoming the first Nigerian and African woman to achieve the feat.
She also broke Glory Alozie’s long-standing African record of 12.44 seconds at the venue, clocking 12.42. The Nigerian returned to Zurich a year later and successfully defended her title, but has not competed at the meeting since.
The 29-year-old will make her long-awaited return to the Swiss city after a fitness issue ruled her out of last week’s Lausanne meeting.
She faces a strong field that includes reigning Olympic champion Masai Russell, world champion Ditaji Kambundji, two-time world champion Danielle Williams, European champion Nadine Visser and Ackera Nugent.
Amusan has already secured qualification for next month’s Diamond League Final in Brussels, where she will chase a fourth career Diamond League trophy.
Her return to Zurich provides an important opportunity to test her fitness and sharpen her form ahead of the season-ending final in Belgium.
