Liverpool have been handed a heavyweight clash with Tottenham Hotspur in the third round of the Carabao Cup, while Manchester United will host Brighton in another all-Premier League encounter.

Tottenham secured their place in the last 32 with a convincing 5-1 victory over Charlton on Wednesday and will now travel to Anfield for a potentially intriguing tie against Liverpool.

Newcastle United have also been drawn away to Millwall, while holders Manchester City will begin their title defence at home against Norwich City.

Premier League champions Arsenal face a trip to Ipswich Town, with Coventry City hosting Aston Villa and Everton welcoming Wolverhampton Wanderers. Crystal Palace will entertain Middlesbrough, Sunderland take on Hull City, and Bournemouth host Lincoln City.

Elsewhere, Reading have been drawn at home to Brentford, Peterborough United will face Barnsley, Fleetwood Town meet Sheffield United and Leyton Orient host Bradford City.

Leeds United will await the winner of Chelsea’s second-round tie against Luton Town, while West Ham United will face either Fulham or AFC Wimbledon.

The third-round ties are scheduled to be played in September.
