Enzo Fernández Joins Manchester City on Five-Year Deal

Manchester City have completed the signing of Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernández from Chelsea on a five-year contract.

The 25-year-old will remain at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2031 after completing his move from the London club, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading midfielders.

Fernández leaves Chelsea after helping the club win the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup in 2025. He scored 15 goals and provided seven assists in 54 appearances across all competitions last season.

The Argentina international arrives at City with considerable experience despite his age, having won major honours at club and international level.

Fernández began his career at River Plate before spending time on loan at Defensa y Justicia, where he won the Copa Sudamericana in 2020 and Recopa Sudamericana in 2021.

He returned to River Plate and helped the club win the Argentine league title before moving to Benfica in 2022.

His breakthrough on the international stage came at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where he played an important role in Argentina’s triumph.

He subsequently helped La Albiceleste win the Copa America in 2024 and featured in another World Cup final this summer, although Argentina lost to Spain.

Fernández currently has 49 international appearances and eight goals for Argentina.

Speaking after completing his move, Fernández said he was delighted to join City and was determined to contribute to the club’s continued success.

‘Manchester City are the most successful club in England in recent times,’ Fernández said.

‘Every player wants to be part of a club like this because everyone knows how well-run City are.

‘I could not be happier to be here, and I am ready for the challenge of helping City continue winning trophies. This is a club built for success.’
