Super Eagles to Face Russia in Nizhny Novgorod October 6
The Super Eagles will face Russia for the second time in 16 months when both countries clash in an international friendly at the 44,000-capacity Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
The fixture was confirmed by Nigeria’s FIFA Match Agent, Jairo Pachon of Eurodatasports, with the encounter coming just one week after Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying trip to Guinea-Bissau.
Nigeria and Russia last met on June 6, 2025, at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium, where they played out a 1-1 draw. Russia took the lead through a first-half own goal by Semi Ajayi before Tolu Arokodare restored parity for Nigeria after the break.
The Super Eagles will enter the October encounter ranked 26th in the world, while Russia’s ‘Our Boys’ occupy 35th position.
The Nizhny Novgorod clash will also provide Nigeria with another opportunity to fine-tune preparations during a busy international calendar.
The Super Eagles will open their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign against Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo before travelling to Bissau to face Guinea-Bissau on September 29.
Russia, meanwhile, will stage their second international at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, which hosted matches during the 2018 FIFA World Cup. They previously defeated Cyprus 1-0 at the venue in a Euro 2020 qualifier in June 2019.
