Femi Azeez’s Brighton Premier League Debut Delayed

Femi Azeez will have to wait a little longer for his Premier League debut after Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler confirmed that the Nigerian winger is recovering from a slight injury.

Azeez, who joined Brighton from Millwall on a four-year contract in September, was ruled out of the Seagulls’ Premier League clash with Coventry City after suffering the setback.

The 25-year-old had been hoping to make his top-flight debut following his impressive campaign with Millwall, where he established himself as one of the Championship’s standout attacking players.

Asked about Azeez’s absence, Hurzeler said the Nigerian and Rutter had both suffered setbacks in training.

‘It is disappointing. They both had a setback in training yesterday, so we will have to see when they will be available. We are hoping next week. We still have a strong squad and a strong XI on the pitch.’

Azeez’s Premier League arrival had generated considerable interest after his performances for Millwall earned him places in both the PFA and EFL Championship Teams of the Season.

He scored 11 goals and provided eight assists in 37 league appearances during the 2025/26 campaign, helping Millwall reach the Championship play-offs.

The Nigerian also arrives at Brighton with international momentum. He made his Super Eagles debut in June and scored both goals in Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe before assisting in the 3-0 win over Jamaica four days later.
