‘I Did Not See 21.47 Coming!’: Jefferson-Wooden Completes Historic Sprint Double

Melissa Jefferson-Wooden was left stunned after producing one of the greatest performances of her career, clocking a sensational 21.47 seconds to win the women’s 200m at the Ultimate Championships in Budapest and complete the prestigious 100m/200m sprint double.

The American produced a devastating finish to pull away from the field and add the 200m crown to the 100m title she had already secured earlier in the championships.

Her 21.47 moved Jefferson-Wooden to third on the all-time 200m list, confirming her place among the fastest women ever over the distance.

The sprint double also earned her a massive $300,000 prize, making her one of the biggest individual winners at the inaugural Ultimate Championships.

‘I did not see 21.47 coming tonight!’ said a stunned Jefferson-Wooden.

‘I told myself that I need to be smart in the semi-final and save some energy. I knew when I came out of the curve in the semifinal, it would be just enough to qualify for the final.

‘I was thinking I could run this fast in maybe two years but not tonight. I really have no words.’

Jefferson-Wooden also revealed that eight-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt had encouraged her earlier in the week after watching her performances.

‘I never thought that people like Usain Bolt would watch my races and even have great reactions to my performances. He said to me earlier this week how proud he is of me for making it seem so easy.’
