Mbeumo Wins Inaugural SuperSport African Premier League Player Of The Month Award

Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo has been named the inaugural SuperSport African Premier League Player of the Month after winning a fan vote for August 2026.

The Cameroon international emerged ahead of Antoine Semenyo, Mamadou Sangaré, Nigeria’s Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy to claim the newly introduced award, which gives Premier League fans across Africa a direct say in which African player deserves monthly recognition.

Mbeumo made an immediate impact at Manchester United following his arrival, scoring a stunning lob in United’s 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town in their first home match of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

The goal also earned him Manchester United’s August Goal of the Month award after beating teammate Bruno Fernandes’ hat-trick in the club’s supporters’ vote.

His direct attacking play, tireless running and ability to consistently create danger helped him win the backing of fans across the continent.

The SuperSport African Premier League Player of the Month is described as a world-first fan-voted award dedicated specifically to African Premier League players.

The initiative will run throughout the 2026/27 season, with standout African players shortlisted each month based on their performances before fans are given 72 hours to determine the winner.

Each monthly winner will receive a trophy and feature in exclusive content, while all monthly winners will subsequently compete for the SuperSport African Premier League Player of the Season award.

The initiative is open to fans across SuperSport’s MultiChoice markets, including its Francophone territories, giving supporters across Africa a unified platform to celebrate the continent’s Premier League stars.

African players have played a major role in the Premier League’s history, with legends including Nwankwo Kanu, Jay-Jay Okocha, Didier Drogba, Yaya Touré, Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah leaving their mark on the competition.

The new generation includes Mbeumo, Carlos Baleba, Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, Nicolas Jackson, Omar Marmoush, Amad Diallo, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Noussair Mazraoui and Yoane Wissa.

SuperSport says the award is designed to put African fans at the heart of the Premier League experience by allowing them to decide which of the continent’s stars deserves recognition each month.

Mbeumo has therefore become the first name on what will be a season-long list of African Premier League stars competing for the inaugural Player of the Season crown.
