African Volleyball Championship: Nigeria Beat Chad 3-0, Shift Focus to Algeria

Nigeria opened their campaign at the 2026 African Men’s Volleyball Nations Championship on a winning note, defeating Chad 3-0 in Tunisia on Wednesday.

The Zone 3 champions dominated from the opening serve, claiming the first set 25-17 before producing an identical 25-17 scoreline in the second.

Nigeria completed the victory in the third set, cruising to a 25-6 win to seal a convincing straight-sets triumph.

The victory is an encouraging start for Nigeria, who are targeting the sole African ticket to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games while also pursuing qualification for the 2027 FIVB World Championship.

Head coach Ryan Masajedi praised his players for sticking to the game plan and executing their instructions effectively.

‘I am excited that the players played according to the instructions given to them; it shows our training programme worked out,’ Masajedi said.

‘They executed the game plan, and we had no issues beating Chad in our first match.

‘We’ll shift focus to our next match against Algeria tomorrow (Thursday) and will not be carried away by the victory. We have to top our group to have a favourable pairing in the next round.’

The Japanese coach also thanked Nigerians at home for their support and cooperation, urging them to continue believing in the team as the players pursue their Olympic and World Championship qualification ambitions.

Nigeria face Algeria in their next group match on Thursday.
