Nigeria’s U18 men’s handball team secured their first win at the 22nd Africa Men’s Youth Handball Championship with a thrilling 26-25 victory over Algeria in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on Wednesday.

The encounter was tightly contested, with both teams level at 11-11 at half-time.

Nigeria, coached by Abdulhakim Yakubu, raised their game after the break and held their nerve in a tense finish to claim two valuable points in Group B.

Akibu Muhammad was named MVP for his outstanding performance.

Nigeria will face Madagascar in their final group game as they continue their push for a place in the knockout stage.
