FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup: Nigeria Set Up Colombia Quarter-Final Clash

Nigeria’s Flamingos will face Colombia in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.

Colombia booked their place in the last eight after edging hosts Poland 1-0 on Thursday, with a late own goal deciding the contest.

The decisive moment came in the 89th minute when Martyna Bartczak inadvertently turned the ball into her own net after Mariana Silva’s effort deflected off the Polish defender.

The victory sends Colombia into the quarter-finals for the second consecutive edition of the tournament. The South Americans had progressed from Group E as one of the best third-placed teams.

Nigeria, meanwhile, secured their quarter-final berth in emphatic fashion, beating England 3-0 earlier on Thursday.

Tosin Rafiu opened the scoring before Janet Akekoromowei doubled Nigeria’s advantage. Substitute Mary Mamudu then completed the scoring to seal a convincing victory over the Young Lionesses.

The quarter-final meeting will therefore pit Nigeria’s high-scoring side against a Colombia team that has already shown its ability to survive tight knockout contests.
