Amusan Tops Nigerian List In African Rankings, Ranked Second Overall In Africa

World Athletics Ultimate Championships silver medalist, Tobi Amusan, has emerged as Nigeria’s top-ranked female athlete in the latest World Athletics rankings for Africa.

Following World Athletics’ update of its world rankings, the 29-year-old former world champion is ranked the second-best female athlete overall in Africa with a total ranking score of 1416, just behind Kenyan steeplechaser Faith Cherotich who leads with 1429 points.

Amusan, who claimed silver at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest this month, is one of only three Nigerian women in the overall women’s Top 100 in Africa.

Favour Ofili is the second Nigerian woman on the list, ranked 31st in Africa with 1309 points, while 400m runner Ella Onojuvwevwo is third, ranked 53rd with 1272 points.

Just outside the Top 100, Rosemary Chukwuma (102nd), Temitope Adeshina (124th) and Ruth Usoro (170th) complete Nigeria’s presence in the women’s Top 200.

For the men, Ezekiel Nathaniel leads with 1387 points to rank 7th overall in Africa, followed by Kanyinsola Ajayi at No.10 with 1384 points, while Samuel Ogazi is 40th with 1313 points. Udodi Onwuzurike completes the list of four Nigerian men in the Top 100.
