Aruna Powers Amiens To Second Straight Pro B Win

Nigeria’s table tennis star Quadri Aruna continued his impressive start to the French Pro B season, guiding Amiens STT to a second consecutive victory with a commanding 3-0 win over Nantes TT on Tuesday.

Aruna, who joined Amiens in May to help the club secure promotion back to the elite Pro A division, delivered a crucial opening victory before his teammates completed the job.

The Week 2 clash also featured a meeting between two generations of Nigerian table tennis, with veteran Segun Toriola representing Nantes.

Fresh from a 3-2 victory over Lille in their opening match, Amiens maintained their momentum against Nantes, with Aruna opening the tie against his former Sporting Clube de Portugal teammate Andre Silva.

The Nigerian dropped the opening game 11-7 but quickly recovered to dominate the contest, winning the next three games 11-5, 11-8, 11-3.

South Korea’s Cho Seungmin then extended Amiens’ advantage by defeating Toriola 11-5, 11-6, 11-5.

Former European champion Joao Monteiro completed the victory against Turkey’s Ibrahim Gunduz, winning 11-9, 12-10, 11-7 in a competitive encounter.

The victory keeps Amiens among the early pace-setters after two rounds, alongside Caen TTC and Pontoise-Cergy.

Aruna and his teammates will return to action on October 23 when they host Compiegnois TT in their Week 3 fixture, as their promotion campaign gathers pace.
