Empoli 1-0 Sampdoria: Tyronne Ebuehi becomes third Nigerian defender to score in the Serie A

Joins Ola Aina and Taribo West in exclusive list

Super Eagles defender Tyronne Ebuehi returned to the starting X1 and scored his first Serie A goal to help Empoli beat Sampdoria 1-0 in a matchweek 18 tie at the Stadio Carlo Castellani on Monday evening.

Ebuehi scored the all important goal on 55 minutes with the assist from Razvan Marin to push Empoli further away from the relegation zone and into 12th position, supplanting both Monza and Lecce.

It was the Nigerian’s fifth start of the season in nine appearances and has now scored once and bagged one assist in only his second season in the Italian topflight.

The goal was als0 historical in a way as the 27 year old has become the third Nigerian defender to score in Serie A, after Ola Aina and Taribo West.

Taribo scored twice and bagged four assists in 48 matches across four seasons for the two Milan sides, AC Milan and Inter Milan.

Aina who is still playing in the Serie A scored has also scored twice for Torino and has featured 93 times.
