Favour Ashe wins first SEC 60m title, Oghenebrume third
Ofili places sixth in women's version
It was a Nigeria 1 and 3 in the final of the 60m event at the Southeatern Conference, SEC, championships Saturday in Fayeteville, Arkansas with Auburn University’s Favour Ashe fulfiling his wish of emerging champions in the short sprint.
Ashe had in an interview promised to not only win his first SEC 60m title to make up for the disappointment of getting disqualified at the same competition last year, he also was keen on becoming the third Nigerian to break 6.50 in the event behind Deji Aliu (6.48) and Olusoji Fasuba (6.49).
The 20 year old fulfilled his first wish, running a personal season’s best of 6.52 to win ahead of Jordan Anthony (6.57) in second and Godson Oghenebrume of Louisiana State University, LSU, who ran 6.64 to place third.
In the women’s fashion, Favour Ofili ran 7.24 to place sixth, a step above her seventh place finish in the same event last year at the same SEC championships held at the Gilliam Indoor Track at College Station, Texas.
