Osimhen beats Di Maria, two others to AIC’s February Player of the Month
Victor Osimhen has been chosen as the Serie A Player of the Month for February by the Italian Footballers’ Association (Associazione Italiana Calciatori).
The Nigerian netted five times last month in Italy’s top flight and is topping the scoring charts in Serie A for the 2022/23 season, having struck 19 times.
He opened the month with a brace in Napoli’s 3-0 defeat of Spezia at the Alberto Picco and followed with a goal each in the wins over Cremonese (3-0), Sassuolo (2-0) and Empoli (2-0).
The 24 year old was voted the best ahead of Juventus midfielder, Angel Di Maria who scored once and bagged two assists in the month under review.
Others are Riccardo Orsolini of Bologna who scored twice in four games and AC Milan’s centre back Malick Thiaw who helped the Rossonnerri keep three clean sheets in four games in February.
Only the Nigerian (five) has scored more goals in the Serie A since February 2023 and he sits atop the top scorer’s chart with 19 goals in 21 games, five more than Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez who has netted 14 times in 25 appearances.
