Abia State Government: Finidi  Still Enyimba’s Coach, Not Sacked!

Former Super Eagles star Finidi George has not been sacked and reports insinuating that should be disregarded, said the Abia state government following a directive from Ifeanyi Ekwueme, the club’s Sporting Director announcing the dissolution of the technical crew of the Peoples Elephant.

Ekwueme, who acted on behalf of new Chairman, Kanu Nwankwo, gave the parties involved a 48-hour ultimatum.

‘The management, staff and technical crew of Enyimba first and second teams are hereby instructed to re-apply for their positions with immediate effect,’ the letter stated.

But in swift reaction, Kazie Uko, the Chief Press Secretary to Alex Oti, the Governor, the Abia state government and the club’s management have not issued any such directive. In a press statement, the Abia state government says the general public should disregard any news suggesting the coach has been sacked.

‘The Abia State Government wish to call on the general public to disregard the story making the rounds that the technical bench of Nigeria’s premier league champions, Enyimba International Football Club, Aba, has been sacked.

‘There is no iota of truth in that fable as no directive has been issued in that regard by either the state government or the club’s management.

Mr. Finidi George, manager of Enyimba and Nigeria’s former international, remains in charge at the club. Likewise all other officers,’ read the statement from Kazie Uko.

Finidi led the Enyimba to their ninth title just last month.
