Adamu Pledges Integrity and Professionalism as Acting CAF General Secretary

Newly appointed Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Samson Adamu, says he is determined to serve the game on the continent with ‘humility, integrity, and professionalism.’

Speaking after his appointment was confirmed at the CAF Executive Committee meeting in Cairo on 29 March 2026, Adamu expressed his desire to leave a lasting legacy in African football administration.

‘I am elated by this appointment. I am determined to serve African Football with humility, integrity, and professionalism,’ he told thenff.com.

Adamu’s journey to CAF’s top administrative seat reflects a career built on passion and innovation.

Fifteen years ago, he launched COPA Lagos, an invitational beach soccer tournament that drew elite teams from around the world and set new standards in organization, marketing, and entertainment. Its success paved the way for Nigeria to host the 2016 CAF Beach Soccer Cup of Nations.

Since then, Adamu has risen through CAF’s ranks, serving first as Director of Competitions and later as Director of Tournaments and Events. His appointment makes him the first Nigerian, and first West African, to hold the General Secretary role in CAF’s 69‑year history.

Adamu also carries the legacy of his father, Dr Amos Adamu, a towering figure in Nigerian and African sports administration.

Dr Adamu served as Sole Administrator of the Nigeria Football Association, Director of Sports Development, and Director General of the National Sports Commission, while also playing leading roles in Nigeria’s hosting of the 1999 FIFA World Youth Championship, the 2000 Africa Cup of Nations, and the 2003 All‑Africa Games.

Samson Adamu’s elevation signals a new chapter for CAF, with expectations that his blend of diligence, people skills, and vision will strengthen the administration of African football and deliver on his promise of integrity and professionalism.
