Adeshina: I Feel So Good and Happy, and Grateful at The Same Time
‘I feel so good and happy, and grateful at the same time,’ said Temitope Adeshina after defending her NCAA indoor high jump crown with a record-equaling clearance of 1.97m.
The Texas Tech athlete matched her personal best and the sixth-best collegiate performance in history, before attempting 2.00m, which would have equaled the collegiate record.
Her victory makes her the first Nigerian student-athlete to successfully defend an NCAA indoor title, while also reaffirming her national record at 1.97m.
‘Winning the NCAA nationals shows the work I’m putting in. Something is showing the work I’m doing, the results. So I am having good results by winning,’ Adeshina told Track and Field News.
At 27, Adeshina now turns her attention to the outdoor season, where she hopes to become the first Nigerian to clear 2m.
Achieving that milestone would also place her among Africa’s elite, joining South Africa’s Hestrie Cloete, who holds the continental record at 2.06m, along with compatriots Desiré du Plessis (2.01m) and Charmaine Weavers (2.00m).
