Adeshina looking to become first African NCAA high jump champion!
Temitope Adeshina will be hoping to do what no African woman has done in NCAA outdoor history: win the NCAA outdoor championship title!.
The 25 year old Nigerian is among the 24 high jumpers who will battle for podium appearances when the event starts on Saturday in Eugene, Oregon, the final day of the 2024 NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships.
Adeshina started her collegiate season like a house on fire, soaring high to clear 1.96m, a new Nigeria record. That was during the indoor season.
Outdoors, the Nigerian has been struggling for form and will hope she finds it when it matters most as history beckons.
The best she has achieved this year outdoor was the 1.90mshe cleared to win the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Waco, Texas last month but she will be hopeful of clearing higher in Oregon.
None of her other 23 competitors has cleared 2.00m this year which could mean a repeat of the 1.96m Adeshina cleared in January could get her to the podium while a record-setting 2.00m could clinch her the title, the first by an African woman in the history of the event at the NCAA.
