Adeshina moves to number two on 2025 World list with 1.93m clearance in Lubbock, Onwuzurike set for 2205 indoor debut
Temitope Adeshina soared highest for the second time in one week to clear 1.93m, a personal season’s best to win the High Jump event at the Texas Tech Red Raider Invitational held Saturday at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas.
The Nigerian who cleared 1.89m to win at the Texas Tech Corky Classic held also at the Sports Performance Center cleared 1.93m on first attempt after surviving a scare, as it were at 1.90m which she was only able to clear on her third and final attempt.
The performance pushed her to number two on the World list for 2025 behind Russia’s Kristina Korolyova who cleared 1.96m seven days earlier at a meeting in Chelyabinsk, Russia.
Also at the meeting in Lubbock, Success Umukoro was third in the 200m, running 23.50, a personal season’s best to place third behind her school mate, Brianna Howard who ran 23.12 to win and University of Southern California’s Madison Whyte who came in third in 23.16.
Meanwhile, former World U20 champion, Udodi Onwuzurike is set to make his 2025 indoor debut at the RADD Sports College Invitational and Multi-Event in Gainesville, Florida on Saturday.
The 21 year old is running indoors for the first time since 2023 and will be competing in the 60m event.
He holds a 6.59 lifetime set in 2023 and the Paris 2024 Olympics 200m semifinalist will be keen to set the tone for the year, especially the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan where he will be looking to finally announce his arrival after an injury plagued career since he ran 19.76 on his way to winning the NCAA outdoor Championships gold in 2023.
