Adeshina named among top three challengers for NCAA high jump indoor gold

Nigeria’s high jump champion and record holder (1.97m), Temitope Adeshina has been named among the top three athletes to battle defending champion, Arkansas’ Rachel Glenn for the NCAA indoor championships high jump this season.

In its preview of the 2025 collegiate indoor season, Stan Becton, the NCAA analyst named the trio of Elena Kulichecnko of Georgia, Adeshina of Texas Tech and Ghana’s Rose Yeboah of Illinois as the top three to challengers.

Glenn won the 2024 women’s high jump title and will have to contend with Kulichecnko, who finished third last season, Adeshina who was fourth and Aboah who placed eighth, for her title defense.

‘Rachel Glenn used an epic collegiate-record-setting jump to win an all-time high jump battle in Boston last year for the title.

‘She wasn’t able to replicate her success outdoors however, as the title was split between Elena Kulichecnko and Rose Yeboah, two of the top challengers to Glenn’s title defense indoors,’ wrote Becton on the NCAA website.

Adeshina had an impressive debut season in the NCAA collegiate circuit last year. She broke Doreen Amata’s 1.95m Nigeria record by adding a centimeter (1.96m) to win the Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas.

The Nigerian did not get close to that height until June when she cleared 1.97m to set another Nigeria record on her way to winning the NCAA outdoor championships bronze in the event.

Adeshina finished 2024 as joint top performers in Africa with Yeboah but topped the Ghanaian as the top ranked African.
