Adeshina soars to the top of African top list, clears 1.89m to win Corky Classic title

Temitope Adeshina opened her 2025 indoor season with a clearance of 1.89m to win the Corky Classic high jump title in Texas on Saturday.

The Nigerian started at 1.75m which she cleared on first attempt, moved to 1.80m which she also cleared on first attempt before jumping to 1.83m, 1.86m and 1.89m which she cleared all on her first attempt.

She however failed thrice in her attempt to clear 1.92m at the competition.

Adeshina, with her i.89m clearance, has now soared to the top of the African top list, supplanting South Africa’s Kristi Snyman who cleared 1.83m a day earlier, also in the USA.

Also at the same meet, Rejoice Sule of University of Texas in El Paso, UTEP, ran 23.78 to place eighth in the 200m.

Grace Oshiokpu of Texas Tech University hopped, stepped and jumped 12.66m in her third attempt to finish ninth in the triple jump where two other ‘Nigerians’, Busola Akinduro and Suzan Ogunleye jumped 13.26 and 13.19m respectively to finish second and third.
