AFN launches probe into age fraud allegations
Okowa vows to sanction age cheats in Nigerian Athletics

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) says it has begun a probe into allegations that athletes presented multiple birth dates during the 2025 African U18 and U20 Championships in Abeokuta.
In a statement signed by Secretary-General Israel Inwang, AFN President Chief Tonobok Okowa declared that the federation under his leadership rejects age cheats and will investigate the matter.
He said an investigative committee would be announced on Monday, December 8, to uncover the truth and sanction any athletes or coaches found guilty.
‘We must protect the integrity of the game and the image of our country, Nigeria. I have remained an advocate of fairness and sticking to rules in under-age competitions and I do not want to believe that any of our athletes or officials would be involved in possible age cheats. We shall resolve this current issue before us,’ Okowa stated.
