AFN postpones its February 14, 2025, Extraordinary Congress

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, says it has postponed its extraordinary congress earlier scheduled to hold on Valentime’s day in Zamfara state.

In a letter signed by its Secretary General, Israel Inwang, the AFN says the postponement is ‘necessitated by two critical developments viz the recent changes in the Federation’s administrative structure, particularly the transition in the office of the Secretary General, which requires adequate time for proper handover and familiarization with ongoing Federation matters and the current security challenges in Zamfara state.’

The AFN says it apologises for ‘any inconvenience this postponement may cause, especially concerning travel arrangements that may have already been made.’

The Federation says a new date and venue for the extraordinary congress will be communicated to all stakeholders ‘in accordance with the timeline prescribed in the AFN Constitution.’

Sportsnow.com.ng recalls the Federation held a poorly attended annual general congress last December and proceedings were allowed to go on despite not forming a quorum for the meeting.

The AFN Constitution stipulates a two-third majority of members must be present for a quorum to be formed.
