Ajayi, Ashe get another chance to impress, Ogazi also set for 400m action Tuesday in Luzern, Switzerland

Sprinters Kanyinsola Ajayi and Favour Ashe will compete in Europe for the second time in four days when they compete in Luzern, Switzerland at the Spitzen Leichtathletik Luzern 2024, a World Athletics Continental Tour – Silver meeting.

For the duo, it is another chance to show how ready they are for their debut at the Olympics after their not too inspiring run at the Moore-Guldensporenmeeting at the Sportcentrum Wembley in Kortrijk, Belgium.

Ajayi won the race with 10.17 while Ashe struggled but came second in 10.31 but both know they will need to run faster as the final countdown to the Paris Olympics continues.

While Ajayi will need to, at least, reproduce the form that saw him run 10.01 at the NCAA outdoor championships to win the bronze medal in the 100m, Ashe will need to convince many Nigerians who feel he should not have been in Nigeria’s Olympic team after he failed to run at the selection trials in Benin city, Edo state last month.

Also billed to compete and equally inspire confidence is Samuel Ogazi who had raised hopes of a possible podium finish after running inside 44.60 three times in the NCAA circuit.

The 18 year old’s 44.52 lifetime best is the fastest man returned by a Nigerian quarter miler since Innocent Egbunike ran 44.17 in 1987.

Ogazi’s post NCAA performances have however left Nigerians wondering if he could recreate his NCAA form at the Olympics.

He has raced four times after that with his best being the 45.35 he ran at the FBK Games in Hengelo last week to finish third.
