Ajayi ends debut Olympics campaign as second fastest Nigerian in Games’ history

Reigning Nigeria 100m champion, Kanyinsola Ajayi ended his debut campaign at the Olympics with a sixth placed finish (10.13) in his semifinal heat which knocked him out of a place in the final.

The 19 year old will however leave Paris, France, venue of the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad as the second fastest Nigerian in the history of the sport.

Ajayi’s 10.02 seconds run in his opening round heat to secure his semifinal ticket is bettered only by Enoch Adegoke’s 9.98 performance in his opening round heat and 10.00 run in the semifinals at the 2020 Olympics.

Also out at the semifinal stage is Favour Ashe who rose from a disappointing 10.16 performance in his opening round heat to run 10.08 to also finish sixth.

Davidson Ezinwa has now been dropped to number three with the 10.03 he ran in his opening round heat at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.
