Akor Adams and Lookman Make AFCON History in Nigeria’s 4-0 Demolition of Mozambique
Akor Adams and Ademola Lookman etched their names into Africa Cup of Nations folklore as Nigeria stormed past Mozambique 4–0 to book their place in the quarterfinals of Morocco 2025.
The duo became only the second set of teammates since 2010 to each register at least three goal involvements in a single AFCON match, equaling the achievement of Algeria’s Islam Slimani and Adam Ounas against Tanzania in 2019.
Lookman spearheaded Nigeria’s blistering start, opening the scoring in the 20th minute before laying on both assists for Victor Osimhen’s brace.
Adams matched his teammate’s impact, creating two goals earlier in the contest before capping his performance with Nigeria’s fourth strike in the 70th minute.
Their combined brilliance delivered a rare double act in AFCON history and powered the Super Eagles to one of their most dominant knockout displays.
Nigeria’s two goals inside the opening 25 minutes marked their first such feat in the 21st century and their first ever in an AFCON knockout tie.
The emphatic win was Nigeria’s 62nd in the competition, second only to Egypt’s 63, while also ensuring they avoided conceding their 100th AFCON goal.
With Osimhen and Lookman both now on three goals apiece and Adams joining the scoring charts, Nigeria’s attack looks primed for sterner tests ahead as they await Algeria or DR Congo in Marrakech on January 5.
