Katsina United Take Command in NPFL Youth League Centres
The NPFL Youth League continued to deliver drama and promise across its regional centres, with Akwa United and Katsina United emerging as early frontrunners in Umuahia and Kano respectively.
At the Umuahia Centre, Akwa United have all but secured their place in the final playoff after recording back-to-back victories in Group B1.
Chinwendu Bright’s ninth-minute strike proved decisive in their narrow one–nil win, placing the team on six points with one match remaining. A draw against Heartland in their final group game would be enough to seal their qualification.
Heartland, meanwhile, have earned a reputation as draw specialists, following a goalless stalemate against Abia Warriors. With two points from two matches, they remain in contention but must overcome Akwa United to progress.
Abia Warriors and Bayelsa United sit at the bottom of the group standings, each with a solitary point.
In Kano, Kano Pillars’ youth side finally broke their winless streak, defeating Niger Tornadoes two–one to hand Coach Mohammed Nasir a much-needed boost. Despite the slow start, Nasir remains optimistic about his team’s chances of reaching the final stage.
Katsina United climbed to the top of the group standings with a hard-fought two–one victory over El-Kanemi Warriors in the day’s late morning fixture. Nasarawa United also secured a narrow one–nil win against Plateau United, strengthening their position in the North Central zone.
With momentum building and playoff spots at stake, the NPFL Youth League continues to showcase the depth of talent and competitive spirit across Nigeria’s footballing landscape.
