Alfred not seeking revenge in Brussels, says: ‘I’ve always wanted to be Usain Bolt’
Paris 2024 Olympics 100m champion, Julien Alfred lost to reigning World champion, Sha’Carri Richardson in their first post Olympics clash and for the third time in six head-to-head clashes at the Weltklasse Diamond League meeting in Zurich last week.
The duo will go head-to-head for the seventh time at the Diamond League final in Brussels on Friday and Alfred, the Saint Lucia sprinter, says she is not looking to avenge the loss in Zurich.
‘I don’t want to use the word revenge. I never run against anyone, I do it for myself and just want to end the season in a nice way. For the same reason, I’m not concerned with times,’ she said at the pre-race presser on Wednesday.
Alfred, the multiple NCAA champion also spoke about her idols, Jamaican duo of Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
She said she has always wanted to be the women version of Bolt.
‘I’ve always wanted to be Usain Bolt, ever since I was little, He was more than my idol. It’s unbelievable what he’s accomplished in his career. Unfortunately, I have never met him. I also look up to Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce enormously,’ she said.
