Alozie salutes Amusan’s silver medal triumph, hails her as ‘Super Champ’
Former Nigerian and African 100m hurdles record holder, Glory Alozie, has showered praise on her successor, Tobi Amusan, following her remarkable silver medal performance at the ongoing 2025 World Athletics Championships.
The feat marks Amusan’s second global medal in the high hurdles, solidifying her place among Nigeria’s track legends.
Despite a slow start in the final, Amusan powered her way to the podium, becoming one of only three Nigerians to win two medals at the World Athletics Championships.
Her resilience and competitive spirit drew admiration from Alozie, who made history as the first Nigerian woman to win a World outdoor medal and the first to claim medals both indoors and outdoors in the same season.
Taking to her Facebook page, Alozie wrote: ‘Wow! What a race, congratulations, my super champ!!’, a heartfelt tribute to Amusan’s grit and brilliance.
Amusan has succeeded Alozie as the record holder for Nigeria, the African Games, African indoor, and the continental record overall.
At 28, she remains a dominant force in global athletics and now sets her sights on the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
If she medals there, she will become only the second Nigerian sprint hurdler, after Alozie, to win medals at both the World Championships and the Olympic Games.
She will also become the fourth Nigerian to do o in all disciplines after Alozie, Ese Brume and Blessing Okagbare.
