Aminat Alabi Secures Back-to-Back Victories, Wins ARM Pension 8.1Km Road Race in Lagos
Rising middle-distance star Aminat Alabi has once again proven her dominance on the road, emerging winner of the prestigious ARM Pension 8.1KM Road Race held in Lagos.
This triumph comes just a week after she etched her name into the history books as the first Lagos-based athlete to win the Lagos Women Run, clinching victory in the 10th anniversary edition of the race.
The ARM Pension 8.1KM Road Race, part of ARM Pension’s Run for the Future programme, combines fitness with financial awareness, encouraging Nigerians to embrace healthier lifestyles while planning for their retirement.
Alabi, 28, is rediscovering the blistering form she showed in 2016 when she clocked 2:09.16 in the 800m. This year, she ran her fastest 800m race since 2018, recording 2:11.61 at the Nigerian Championships in Lagos at the end of July.
She also broke new ground in the 1500m, running 4:39.84 at the AFN/DYNAMIC Athletics Meet at Yabatech Sports Complex in July 2025 – her first time under 4 minutes 40 seconds.
Her coach, Chief Tony Osheku, himself a former Nigerian middle-distance champion, expressed confidence that Alabi’s resurgence will continue into the new year.
He believes she has the potential to rival East African athletes in the 10km road races at both the Lagos Marathon and the Okpekpe International 10km Road Race in Edo State next year.
Raised in a military barracks in Lagos, Alabi credited her coach for playing a pivotal role in her success.
