Amokachi eyes winning start to second NPFL stint; Finidi seeks fifth straight win, Amuneke targets first away win

Former Nigeria international midfielder, Daniel ‘Da Bull’ Amokachi will be seeking to lead Lobi Stars to their first away win of the season and second victory in six games when they face Niger Tornadoes at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna on Sunday.

Amokachi was unveiled the new boss of the team last week and Sunday’s game will be his first in charge as he hopes to make a winning start to his second stint as a coach of a Nigeria Premier Football League side.

The 1994 Africa Cup of Nations and 1996 Olympic Games gold medal winner is making a comeback to the NPFL after a nine-year absence. The former Super Eagles attacker last managed the defunct FC Ifeanyi Ubah in the NPFL.

In Maiduguri, Emmanuel Amuneke will be aiming for his second win on the bounce when he takes his side, Heartland FC of Owerri to play El Kanemi Warriors at the El Kanemi Stadium.

After three losses and a draw, Amuneke finally led his team to victory last weekend against Katsina United at the Dan Anyiam stadium in Owerri.

The former Nigeria international winger will also be looking to secure his first away win in the NPFL but will face a side that is yet to taste defeat this season.

Amuneke will however bank on the fact that their host is yet to also win at home this season and could be the first side to win in Maiduguri this season.

For Finidi George, another former Nigeria international winger, Sunday’s trip to Katsina by his side, Rivers United will be to maintain their unbeaten run this season and clinch their fifth straight win in six matches.

Finidi has led Rivers United to the top of the log and a win on Sunday, which will be their second of the season, will help them maintain their position on the log
