Amusan and Enekwechi Chase Diamond League Final Spots to Silesia
Nigeria’s track and field stars, Tobi Amusan and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, will be looking to secure their places in the prestigious Diamond League Final in Zurich next month as they prepare to compete at the Kamili Skolimowskiej Memorial meet in Chorzów, Silesia, on August 16.
Amusan, the reigning 100m hurdles world record holder and one of Nigeria’s most decorated athletes, currently sits second in the Diamond League standings with 17 points.
A top-three finish in Silesia would guarantee her qualification for the Zurich Final, with the Lausanne leg still remaining.
The 28-year-old sprint sensation made history in 2023 by clinching her third consecutive Diamond Trophy, becoming only the second woman in Diamond League history to achieve such a feat—following the USA’s Dawn Harper-Nelson, who won four titles in a row.
After missing the 2024 final due to an early Olympic exit, Amusan’s pursuit of a fourth Diamond Trophy has emerged as one of the most compelling narratives of the 2025 athletics season.
Meanwhile, African shot put champion Chukwuebuka Enekwechi is currently ranked sixth in the Diamond League standings—the final qualifying spot for Zurich.
The 32-year-old athlete, who placed fifth at last year’s final in Brussels with a throw of 21.29m, is eager to return to the elite stage. His recent record-breaking performance of 22.10m in Eugene, which set a new African benchmark, underscores his readiness to compete at the highest level.
Enekwechi will aim to consolidate his position in Silesia before heading to Lausanne, where another strong showing could seal his second consecutive appearance in the Diamond League Final.
