Amusan believes her future lies in flat sprinting, set for 100m race at Racers Grand Prix

World 100m hurdles record holder at 12.12, Tobiloba Amusan believes her future lies in 100m flat instead of the sprint hurdles.

The 28-year-old who will be competing in the 100m event at the Racers Grand Prix, the event organized by her new, world acclaimed coach, Glen Mills, told Loopnews in an interview that she believes she is more of a sprinter than a hurdler.

‘I feel like I’m more of a sprinter than a hurdler, and I wasn’t about to let that talent go to waste. My (former) coach, Lacena Golding-Clarke, and I had that conversation, and after the Olympics, it was a mutual decision. We looked at all the options and agreed that Racers Track Club was the best place for me,’ Amusan was quoted as saying by the news outlet.

The Nigerians recalls her trip to Kingston, Jamaica to get coached by a man who trained Usain Bolt to multiple World and Olympics records and titles.

‘I packed my bags on the 28th of November, arrived on the 29th, and started training the very next day, literally,’ revealed the Nigerian who described the training in Jamaica as ‘a smooth transition’, praising Mills for his tailored approach.

‘It’s been great. The way Coach Mills trains is similar to what I’ve done over the years. I’m a fragile athlete; I can’t take a daily beating, so it takes a very special coach to work with someone like me.’

Amusan will looking to follow in the footsteps of the great American, Gail Devers who was a phenomenal both in the 100m flat and the sprint hurdles, with a 12.33 lifetime best in the 100m hurdles and 10.82 in the 100m flat.

Amusan’s 12.12 World record is equal to a 10.67 in the 100m while her 12.45 personal season’s best which she achieved at the Diamond League meeting in Rabat, Morocco last month.

All eyes will be on the Nigerian at the Racers Grand Prix on Saturday to see if she can improve either on her 11.28 personal season’s best or her 11.10 personal best.
