Amusan Bounces Back with Blistering 12.25s in Silesia Diamond League Final

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan reaffirmed her status as one of the world’s elite hurdlers on Saturday at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Silesia, Poland, clocking 12.25 seconds to finish third in the women’s 100m hurdles final.

The performance marked her second-fastest time of the season and the fourth time in her career she has dipped under the 12.30s barrier.

Running from the outermost lane (lane 8), Amusan overcame the disappointment of a tense semifinal — where she barely qualified with a 12.48s finish — to deliver a commanding performance in the final.

Her time improves on her Paris outing earlier this season, where she ran 12.24s, and signals a strong return to form ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo next month, where she will aim to reclaim her world title.

The race was won by Olympic champion Masai Russell of the United States, who shattered the long-standing Diamond League record of 12.20s set by Kendra Harrison in 2016.

Russell clocked 12.19 seconds, her second-fastest time this year after running 12.17s in the U.S. earlier in the season. She now holds two of the three fastest times ever recorded in the event.

Fellow American Tonea Marshall finished second with a personal best of 12.24s, edging Amusan by a mere hundredth of a second.

Dutch hurdler Nadine Visser, who had impressed in the semifinals with a national record of 12.28s, faded in the final to place sixth in 12.60s.

Amusan’s performance not only boosts her Diamond League points tally but also sends a clear message to her rivals: the reigning world record holder is still a formidable contender.

She now heads to the Athletissima meet in Lausanne in four days, continuing her build-up to Tokyo 2025.
