Amusan, Brume may start 2024 Diamond League campaign in China

Tobi Amusan looks set to begin her hunt for a record-equalling fourth Diamond League 100m hurdles title on the trot in China following the release of the
calendar for athletics’ premier one-day series.

The season will begin with a Chinese double bill, with meetings in Xiamen on 20th April and Shanghai on 27th April.

The 2024 calendar will feature 15 of the most prestigious one-day meetings in global track and field. As in previous years, athletes will compete for points
at 14 series meetings, with the most successful in each discipline qualifying for the Wanda Diamond League Final at the end of the season.

The Nigerian made history in Oregon, USA barely 10 days ago when she became the second woman in Diamond League history, after American, Dawn Nelson-Harper to
win a hat-trick of 100m hurdles title. She will be seeking to equal the American’s feat again.

Nelson-Harper won four Diamond League 100m hurdles title between 2012 and 2015.

Amusan will be competing in China for the first time in the series and will become the third Nigerian woman in Diamond League era to compete in China.

Blessing Okagbare is the first to compete in China (Shanghai) and won the long jump in 2014 (6.86m) and 100m (10.98) in 2015, beating the late Tori Bowie.

Ese Brume was in Xiamen, China early this month to seal her qualification for the Diamond League final in Oregon. She jumped 6.71m to ensure she made history as the first Nigerian field eventer to compete in the Diamond League final.
