‘I wanted to run a personal best and I’m close to it’: Amusan chases new World Record to Ostrava after blistering 12.24 run in Paris
Nigerian sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan is back in sensational form following a stellar performance at the Meeting de Paris Diamond League, where she narrowly missed out on a new lifetime best.
Clocking a season-best 12.24 seconds in the women’s 100m hurdles, Amusan signaled she’s inching closer to breaking her own world record of 12.12s set in 2022.
‘That race was great; I’m satisfied with my season best,’ Amusan told the Diamond League website the race. ‘I wanted to run a personal best and I’m close to it. I just need to keep training hard. I will head to Ostrava and then take one meet at a time.’
Amusan now turns her focus to the 64th Ostrava Golden Spike, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meet set for Tuesday in the Czech Republic. Her return to Ostrava comes with high expectations, as she continues her quest to reclaim the Diamond League trophy she relinquished in 2024, and the world title lost in 2023.
The last time Amusan competed at the Ostrava event was in 2023, where she placed third behind Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and Tia Jones, clocking a then season-best 12.47 seconds. This year, she’s back with a vengeance, determined to climb back to the top of global hurdling.
